This painting, titled The Vase, is one in the series of surreal paintings I did in the 1970s. I have no idea of it's symbolic significance or any hidden meaning it has. I do know I was impressed with the image of the vase when I first saw it at my landlord's house. I bought it from his widow 45 years after I had done the painting...figured it sort of went with the painting. It makes me think of the wonderful still life paintings of my friend, Del Gish. The lake is probably Coffeepot Lake near Odessa, WA. I used it in the backgrounds of several paintings from that time.
