I have finally found a photo of that very first landscape that I did after the surreal skull paintings. I believe I mention this piece in the biography. It was the one that was the result of my friend Curt Hanson's recommendation that I go and paint the creek on the property. It came out rather well and I traded my landlord a month's rent for it. The year was 1974 and it was significant as it was the start of a 47 year and still going stretch of landscape paintings. Shortly afterwards, I painted the work Dragoon Creek Landscape (see Archive). Rick Meyerowitz (the famous New York cartoonist...he did the poster for Animal House) did me a favor and bought it for $300 thus saving me from being totally broke at the time...I had $27. Rick and I both went to art school at Boston University in the sixties. We were notorious for doing not-very-flattering cartoons of the faculty which we discovered they loved.
